Generating energy from these sources produces minimal overall greenhouse gas emissions and reduces impacts on the environment. The Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability promotes the development of renewable energy as part of a portfolio approach to ensuring sustainable development in the New South Wales energy sector and reducing the State's greenhouse gas emissions. The Renewable energy target levels will be 10 per cent by 2010 and 15 per cent by 2020.
