Water Savings Fund

The Water Savings Fund was announced as part of the NSW Government’s Metropolitan Water Plan.

It provides $135 million over four years for water saving and recycling projects within Sydney Water’s area of operations (Sydney, Blue Mountains and Illawarra).

This includes an extra $10 million allocated to the Fund in February 2006 for high water users to implement savings projects identified in Water Savings Action Plans (see below).

The Water Savings Fund was extended to the Central Coast in May 2006.

Water Savings Action Plans

The Water Savings Fund goes hand in hand with a requirement for certain high water users and local councils to prepare Water Savings Action Plans. “Designated Users” are organisations required to prepare savings action plans. Designated Users are encouraged to apply to the Water Savings Fund to implement savings measures identified in their plans. The NSW Government allocated an extra $10 million to the Water Savings Fund in 2006 for high users to implement actions identified in savings action plans.
